04.15.2019

As part of the national innovation competition funded by the French government through the Major Investment Plan, no fewer than 11 Grenoble Alpes startups from or linked to Université Grenoble Alpes were winners in the second round, representing more than 17% of the winners.

11 startups from or related to public research and higher education in the Grenoble Alpes region were winners among the 65 winners in the second round of the innovation competition funded by the French government through the Major Investment Plan:  Alpinov X, Interactive Drone, Enhancia, LXrepair, MagIA Diagnostics, Medimprint, Pollen Metrology, Rheonova, ROSI, Save Innovations and Skopai. This competition is run by ADEME, Bpifrance and FranceAgriMer and selects high-potential innovative projects for the French economy, co-funding research, development and innovative projects with total costs ranging from €600,000 to €5 million. This illustrates our ecosystem's entrepreneurial dynamism. While the majority of the winners are from or related to technologies developed in our research laboratories, it can be noted that Enhancia is a student-run startup assisted by the Ozer “Pépite” (student centre for innovation, transfer and entrepreneurship). In addition, three award-winning startups benefited from SATT Linksium's assistance in maturation, incubation and creation (equity investment): INTENT (Interactive Drone) MagIA diagnostics and ROSI.

The innovation competition

The French government through the Major Investment Plan funds the national innovation competition run by ADEME, Bpifrance and FranceAgriMer. It aims to support innovative projects by start-ups and SMEs on 9 issues (see below). It helps foster the accelerated growth of companies that are destined to become leaders in their field and can claim global reach. In a procedure that favors competition, it selects high-potential innovative projects for the French economy, co-funding research, development and innovative projects with total costs ranging from €600,000 to €5 million.

• Renewable energies, storage and energy systems
• Sustainable transport and mobility
• Energy and resource efficiency
• Water and biodiversity
• Digital Deep Tech
• Health – bioproduction
• French Fab
• Security and Cybersecurity
• Innovative agriculture

The winners of the 2nd round were selected: 65 winners for a total amount of 37 million Euros (see table). The winners will be presented with their prizes at a ceremony next summer. This call for projects is in accordance with i-Lab, a competition for the creation of innovative technology companies, coming under the same banner of "Innovation Competition". Deep Tech projects are particularly sought, when the theme is relevant.
